The Ting Tings were turned off experimental music after they saw a guy playing a cardboard instrument. The ‘Hands’ group made their second album in Berlin, and although they originally considered taking their music in an experimental direction, were quickly put off by some of the city’s more avant garde performers. Singer Katie White said: “There was all the experimental stuff, like a guy with an instrument made out of cardboard. It had the opposite effect on us: it just made us want to go and write some proper, catchy songs.”

The band - which is completed by multi instrumentalist Jules De Martino - also admit their wanderlust had got the better of them by the time they finished a two year tour of the world, and they were burned out. This led them to write the chorus line in their new single, ‘Hands’: “put your hands up if you’re working too hard,” but Katie added they chose that line as it seemed to also reflect the attitude of people around them. She explained: “We were feeling pretty sorry for ourselves. While we’d been away, everybody we know had been feeling the same thing. I’d be like, How’s my uncle? Oh, he’s not well, he’s got something wrong with him, but he’s still working till ten every night, because his company’s nearly gone bust. Everyone seemed to have gone into meltdown, or lost their jobs.”

Lil Wayne Red Cap

is to be handed a court summons in jail. The rapper - currently incarcerated at New York’s Riker’s Island prison on weapons charges - faces a fresh legal battle after his expected release on November 4, as a producer has launched a copyright infringement lawsuit against him.

Michael ‘Mali Boi’ Bradford is claiming for unpaid royalties he believes he is due for creating the beat to Wayne’s single ‘Mrs. Officer’. He says he came up with the rhythm five years before it was reworked by Deezle, who is credited as the producer of the track. Deezle is also reportedly launching legal action, saying he has not been paid royalties for the 2008 single, from Wayne’s breakthrough ‘Tha Carter III’ album.

wants to duet with . ‘Rude Boy’ singer Rihanna has forged a close friendship with Katy, and even organised her bachelorette party in Las Vegas last month, and now wants to work professionally with her too. Rihanna told Entertainment Today: “We want to get in the studio and hopefully make something for an album, who knows - or maybe for her re-release. We want to do something together for sure. In this industry you don’t meet a lot of people that are genuine, but Katy is such a free spirit, she has no edit button. We just clicked. We have similar personalities and a similar sense of humour and from there she just seemed like a really down to earth person.”

Rihanna’s comments come only days after she described Katy’s music as “generic” when promoting her latest album, ‘Loud’. She said: “Every song was tailored to me. I wanted songs that were all Rihanna, songs that nobody else could do. I didn’t want the generic pop record that Ke$ha or Lady Gaga or Katy Perry would do.” Rihanna’s ‘Loud’ is scheduled for release on November 12.

M.I.A, La Roux and Alicia Keys, among others, are set to appear on Kanye West’s new album. The ‘Runaway’ rapper announced his fifth album will be called ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ earlier this week, and while Kanye has previously confirmed certain stars will appear - including Jay-Z, RZA and Beyonce Knowles - it seems his guest list is much longer than previously thought. As well as those previously mentioned, Kanye said he’s also been in the studio with Kid Cudi, Mos Def and Santigold and that indie musician Justin Vernon is “all over” the album.

One track which has already been leaked, ‘Lost In The World’, features Justin’s vocals. Kanye’s celebrity album cast could be part of his striving to fill the gap left by ‘King Of Pop’ Michael Jackson’s sudden death last year, a role he sees himself in line to fulfill. He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “With the passing of Michael Jackson, I feel a responsibility to bring things to our generation that can inspire and bring real culture to pop culture. I don’t sleep anymore thinking how we are going to fill this gap, and create something to inspire on the level he did.”

Although Kanye has mentioned a large number of people involved with ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’, he lines are blurred between which artists will appear on the commercially released album and who will appear in his G.O.O.D Fridays series, which has so far seen mainly extended and remixed versions of tracks from the albums featuring a number of rappers and producers. ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ will be released on November 22.

“I said, ‘Listen, I have two requests—good lighting and a warm room. That’s all I’m asking for. If I’m walking out with it all f**king hanging out there for the world to see then, well, I need good lighting and a warm room ... I didn’t eat for a day and I did about 2,000 sit-ups.”

Could this be the tune that finally tops a holiday song – released 16 years ago?

Later this fall, will follow up Merry Christmas, her album from 1994, with a festive sequel.

Although “Oh Santa!,” the first track from Merry Christmas II You, won’t likely reach classic status like the single “All I Want For Christmas Is You” did, it’s still pretty fun to listen to.

At the very least, the tune is definitely worthy of a Gap commercial.

The new holiday album will hit stores on November 2.
